Designed to keep up with your dog’s adventures, wherever they take them. A GPS tracker and behaviour monitor.
The single most challenging project I have worked on.
The Animo project was quite a test but I loved it. It's not often you get to work on products designed for man's best friend, but it makes it feel much less like work! Even my own pooch ending up on the front of the packaging.
Essentially it is a "Fitbit" for dogs. The first version is the circular one above - an activity tracker and behaviour monitor. The larger second version is the same but inclusive of GPS tracking as well, for those more adventurous dogs.
My end-to-end involvement in Animo as the only UX/UI Designer, despite a whole team of developers made it tough but it was a journey I wouldn't change.
Both Animo and Animo GPS were engineered from the ground up. I was very present for this development and had to work very closely with the firmware team to ensure there was little disconnect between their ouput and our product requirements.
Unfortunately very complex algorithms and shall we say interesting firmware architecture choices meant the edge cases were never ending.
Unfortunately the firmware and software teams developing the product and app were located in Israel. This long distance situation made everything much harder to communicate.
As rewarding as working with animals is, you can just never know what they are going to do. Gathering reliable data when testing product and app was not easy!
Despite the mountains that had to be climbed, a valuable digital product was produced. Owners and veterinary professionals claimed it really helped to uncover previously unknown behaviours of dogs which in turn aided them in providing better care.
My involvement with Animo didn't stop when the product was finished. I continued to work on a range of marketing collateral including a new micro-site.
